Todd and Charissa,

Just a quick note to say WWWWAAAAAAOOOOOOW!

Love the board!. It came in one piece only four days after you sent it. I went surfing the following day and the difference,

compared to my old board was like comparing a horse and cart to a Lambourghini Diablo!

I can’t believe how light it is, any movement or weight shift at all and it responds immediately, unlike the coffin I was surfin’ previously . This is definitely going to take my surfing to a whole new level. I just want to say thanks to both of you for your kind and very efficient service, I will not hesitate to buy another board from you in the future…

Anyway take care….

Thanks again,

Stay safe,

Hi Todd and Charissa,

My new Blackbird is like butter on a wave, so loose yet smooth!

The rocker on this is magic… My PU performance fish (the one that I wanted replicated as a PROXY) feels slower and stiffer in comparison. Thanks for the recommendation!

You were right: it’s making me want to sell all my other boards and get a quiver of PROXY Blackbirds!

Hello charissa, hello Todd!

I’m letting you know that I got the new board this week. Package was top notch and the board arrived in 1 piece.
For your future customers I sincerely think that you
should warn them about your surfboards.

I missed almost 2 days of work since I received mine.

It rides so good it’s just not sane…

I’ve never had a board so responsive, nervous and fun to ride. Ever get the feeling to just scream after landing a trick because it feels sooo good?
Well this is how I feel just about every 2 minutes spent in the water. My boss sent someone to pick me up at my favorite spot today to take me out of the water, I’m forced to work now.

I could not be more pleased!

I have literally ridden it for 4 weeks straight every single day of the week

Todd and Charissa,

Well this email is horribly late but I blame that solely on the board you made me.  The lime green 5′9″ x 19″ 7/8 x 2″ 3/4 Rascal II you built for me is in a word…. “insane”.  I have literally ridden it for 4 weeks straight every single day of the week and am continually impressed with how it performs.

It has turned around what would normally be a boring surf sessions in gutless surf into killer sessions.

The board just kind of lifts up underneath your feet giving you a gliding/ skimming feeling that I have not experienced before.

My surfing has never looked or felt better and I can’t thank you enough for that!

I know that this board is reported as a “small wave / gutless surf” board, but I have to say

it is one of the most versatile boards
I have ever ridden.

With the 5 fin setup, I can make adjustments for when faces start jacking up to give the board more bite into the wave (It ripped right through pumping head high to HH+ waves).  The waves have gotten quite a bit bigger the last two days and I moved back to my standard shortboard……

I lasted for all of 4 rides before I pulled the Rascal II out again.

That would be my only complaint about this board,

I want to ride it in everything!!

I will definitely be calling upon you in the future for another board.

Thanks again to both of you!  Todd for making the board I always wanted and Charissa for being hands down the coolest person to do business with.

Hey Todd,
I hope you’re well! I recently returned from the Mentawais, and I rode my custom flexible epoxy Tail Caves every day. The surf was small for most of the trip, but the board brought my backside surfing to a new level nevertheless.

I had been riding surftechs for the last 2 years, and I found this board way more lively, responsive, yet forgiving in the pocket and off the lip.

We caught overhead Rifles on the last day of the trip, and I caught the longest, fastest barrels of my life. Check out the pics!

ZOOM in on Jorge’s Indo Barrel
Todd,
Just wanted to let you know that the Blackbird has been working insanely well for me on the small days here in the Mentawais (chest to well-overhead). Super fun, loose, and flexy when snapping of the lip. The board works great for fin throws, layback snaps, full roundhouses, barrels, etc. This board is a dream ripper…
I only wish I would have bought your stock 6-4 Ante-up, to use for the upcoming swell, as I think it would have worked great as a step-up for me in these kind of waves. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll be happier in the long run with an more all around custom Ante-up that hopefully would go sick in Indo as well as California, France, Puerto Rico, etc! I think that board will be my next order from you later this summer…
Take care!

your epoxies must have kryptonite in them!

Todd & Charissa:

I am soo stoked you guys had a great time in Bali! We need to organize and go together or at least hook up next time.

Indo is insane – nothing compares, I’m ruined as far as surf trips go!

Also, have you found it hard to get fired up since you’ve been back?!

The Mentawaii Islands are unreal! I see what all the fuss is about now. Surfing here in California so long, it took a session to get used to all the open ocean water moving when the swell was bigger, but I soon adapted.

We surfed so many world class breaks: Kandui, NoKanduis, Rifles, Hideaways, Ebay, Beng Bengs, A Frames, and the break right out front 4 Bobs.

It was consistently head high to overhead nearly everyday and we had only one day that was flat by Indonesian standards – still was chest high on the sets that flat day.

We were so fortunate to be booked the same week as a group of top pros, the experience of surfing, hanging out and talking shop with these guys was priceless. It was pretty common to be eating lunch, having a beer or getting boated to surf with the likes of Kelly Slater, Andy Irons, Shane Dorian, Ross Williams, Martin Potter or Kai Garcia. Kai took me a couple of times on the back of the jet ski to check Kandui! I played cards with Martin Potter (Martin Potter!) and just hung out and talked w/ the rest of the pros like we knew each other for years. ESPN2 and Transworld Surf were filming every hiccup these guys did and we got to watch the footage each night over dinner.

Surfing the same waves and watching what these guys were doing 10 yards deeper than any mortal wanted anything to do with, over nearly dry coral, was a real eye opener.

I got cut so many times, I thought I was going to need to be airlifted to Oz more than once. That’s the thing with a lot of these places! The videos make it look so perfect, but what you can’t see from these videos is the dry coral or exposed rocks in front of the person taking off or when they are driving a barrel. Speaking of that topic,

your epoxies must have kryptonite in them! I snapped 3 leashes and lost both the SR71s to absolutely dry reef

(like 20 yards of it) and both boards suffered minor scratches that I just rubbed out and one minor spider crack.

Not one ding!!

Same thing happened to the Blackbird two days later at a different reef. I was being clever trying to get one more snap too close to the end section and I was absolutely thrashed on the reef, bleeding everywhere (still have cuts!) and convinced the Blackbird was toast. After a 20 minute swim around I went in to shore to pick it up off DRY reef and it only had the same type of scratches as the SR71s from a few days before.

Rubbed them out and the board is as good as new! No one could believe these boards survived! Everyone was impressed!!!

I’m stoked to hear of the design updates for the SR71 and the new Rascal II. I spent a considerable time talking with Kelly and he is absolutely convinced that going shorter is the new way to go. I am thinking of bringing down the 6.0 to a 5.11 or 5.10, but thickening it up to like 2 3/8 maybe even a 2.5 so I won’t lose any paddling foam. The Rascal II looks like a guaranteed winner here in grovelling type waves. What do you think of a 5.8 x 11.75 x 19 x 14.75, 2.5 moon tail.

I hope all is well with you both!

Take care and God bless!

Holy Shakas Todd! The Rascal II is absolutely insane. I’ve surfed it
nonstop since picking it up from you, and I’m loving it.

This is not just a small wave board; it’s an all around awesome board for

everything from knee high dribblers to head high peelers.

No need to grab the shortboard for the average good days.

The Rascal II is so manueverable, fast, and

responsive, I don’t want to ever put it back

in the board bag. Everyone should get one.

Hey Todd:

Been awhile since I picked up the boards, but I wanted to let you know that they both work unreal.

I have never had boards that are so light and responsive as this. Especially like the Pig and have surfed it in head high waves.

Been on that board alot. Waiting for a little more juice to get the Accelerator going, but so far I am totally satisfied. I think you dialed in exactly what I needed in both boards and it feels like my surfing has gone to the next level. The rest of my boards are just collecting dust right now!

And thanks for the personal service. Best custom service I have had.

You have a great operation and I like that fact that you treat everyone with equal respect and attention. I will be coming back for more, if these Proxy’s ever give out!

Off to Costa Rica next month and will send you some photos. Wanted to check to make sure there
are no issues with the Proxy’s when traveling or in the heat. Let me know if they require any special
care.

Best to you and Charissa.

Todd,

I’ve found the board is flying on the quad mode

which is good for when it’s either really small or else ledgy and barreling. You were right though, it doesn’t hook straight up and down like a tri. Used as a tri it is a little slower than the quad, but goes top to bottom easier for good rail to rail surfing. Your flexible epoxy is noticably livelier than the Surftechs and a good deal lighter, too. I am absolutely stoked on your boardline and can’t wait to work on another couple.
Thanks for everything Todd and Charissa.

Custom Quad Fin Surfboards – Detail your Board with the Shaper

Hey Todd,

I hope all is going well and you guys are getting tons of waves from this swell!!

I wanted to give you some feedback on the Blackbird, the best board I have EVER ridden.

This board is everything you said it would be and more. Since picking it up last weekend, I have ridden it at head high Trestles, head high Swami’s and 10-12 foot closed out Mission Beach (for a contest – not by choice). First off, this board is so fast right from the take off, I find myself confidently freefalling into waves five feet behind the peak and zipping right into position. When coming off the top, it releases like no other, actually pushing your lips higher and projecting you through the turns down the line. The tail will bust out insanely at times, especially on the backside, totally breaking free and reengaging for some pretty solid comments from people watching. I found moving the back foot up off the fins helps it go through the high tide mushy spots with no loss of speed and keeps it really manueverable. This may be the board of all boards, if you can think it, you can do it! It truly goes where you want it to. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to take their surfing to the next level! I’ll give you some feedback on the Greased Pig soon, but fortunately the waves haven’t been small enough for it yet! HA!

We had the fourth contest at solid 10 – 12′ Mission Beach yesterday and I had a near drowning incident involving EMT, lifeguards etc. It wasn’t the board, but instead the little string on the leash broke leaving me in a rip tide with no board, a filled wetsuit and a 6 wave set on the head. Despite my near tragedy, the Blackbird made it out of the carnage fine and I still made it to the finals even with the one wave I had in the semis. I can’t believe the Blackbird sustained no damage – that foam must be kriptonite, because I took the one that broke my brand new leash right on the back. The whole contest crew was on their feet watching and just in awe that the board didn’t break (not a scratch!). It was one of those scenes where everyone went, ‘Ohhhhhhh!’.

I am thinking of backing it up with an SR71 and maybe an Ante Up / SR71. Here are some thoughts / questions:

1) Would you recommend making any adjustments from the Blackbird to SR71 (length, width, etc) based on the differences between the two boards?
2) Would you recommend decreasing the widepoint of 18.5 if I went up by an inch to 6.1 for the SR71 or can I leave it alone?braeden-pig-dog2.jpg
3) On the Ante Up, if I get into a Big Rock / Point Mugu situation w/ a lot of water moving and offshores, do I want a PU w/ heavier glass or a Proxy?

Thanks Todd and Charissa for all the support! Check the shots of Braeden practicing his pig dog on the Greased Pig!

God Bless,

Paul

…..

Good morning Todd, it’s Dale Rhodes…how are you? It’s 10:00 on Tuesday. Happy Holidays. The board worked amazing. I didn’t get to ride it in any big surf….Saturday, West PDS was well overhead and I didn’t wanna go in it with that board until I got used to it. But

I rode it twice in waist to chest-high surf… and it’s very responsive, very fast, I love it.

I was able to acclimate to that board quite quickly. So I just wanna let you know I’m super impressed with the board, it works amazing. And I haven’t even ridden it in really good surf yet, so I think I’m in for a treat. But anyways, I just wanted to give you that feedback cuz I’m sure that you wanted to hear about it. So give me a call back because I want to order another one in another length. And that’s that. Hopefully you guys had a beautiful Christmas and I will talk to you later.

Thank you. Bye.

Hey Todd + Charissa,

Just thought I’d drop a line just to let you know that this board has changed my surfing completely.

When I got on it, it just felt so light and smooth and it goes like a rocket. I love it and everyone who’s seen it is really impressed by it so don’t be surprised if the orders start flyin’ in from the west side!. We were down on Ballyliffen beach last week , this is where this photo was taken. You will have to come over some time, if you do, just give me a shout.

Thanks again Todd for a mindbender of a board, gonna order a groveler in the near future so I’ll be in touch.

Hey Todd and Charissa,

I’m stoked you guys got some juice from the last swell. Yeah, I’m alright, but did have to go to the ER for a bacterial infection in my lungs that didn’t crop up for several days.

I was able to paddle out today on the Greased Pig and I’ve got to tell you, you’ve hit another HOMER, man! You are batting 1000 with my quiver so far, bro.

That Greased Pig model just flies in the small stuff and even some sneaker overhead bowls that were making it through. I was getting 4 – 5 hits on waves and flying past sections others had no chance of making. It’s weird, but I feel like I’m looking at the waves a little differently on your boards. I’m feeling way more confident. If you take the high line on the Greased Pig, there aren’t many waves it won’t fly past! It’s just a really fun board that makes surfing less than ideal waves amazing!

I can’t stop thinking about the SR71 and am thinking of backing up the Blackbird with a couple.

What do you think of these dimensions?

Board 1
SR71, 6′ 0.5″, 11.25, 18 7/16, 14, 2 3/16 FCS, PROXY, standard squash, safety nose (blunt 1/2″ like you did on the Greased Pig)

Board 2
SR71, 6′1″ , 11.25, 18.5, 14, 2 3/16, FCS, PROXY, rounded squash, safety nose

Let me know on these 2. I’m firing to try them.

Paul

Hi Todd,

I ordered my first board from you nearly 2 years ago, a flexible epoxy Groveler IVP. It’s been a great everyday board. I surf anywhere from 1-4 x per week and have been surfing for 20 years.

I have never had a board that kept it’s flex/pop so long and even more amazing,

I have NEVER had to fix a ding. I swear that board is bulletproof. No dings, no delam, no nothing!

The only thing I think I’m starting to feel is the flex seems to deadened a little. I’m guessing you would agree that my board has reached its average usable life.

I see you have a new formula (Proxy). Any differences in feel from the flexible epoxy of my current board? How long is your turnaround on these?

Best regards,

Aaron Ross, Ladera Ranch, CA
Custom Epoxy Proctor Surfboard: 6′3″ x 19 1/4″ x 2 /12″ Groveler IV.p

Hi Aaron,

I am always stoked to hear more good feedback regarding our flexible epoxy series. Your board is probably getting into it’s golden years now….probably time for a newy.

Unfortunately nothing lasts forever…..except our soul….

The new Proxy has the same flex properties as the original flexible epoxy. I’ve just improved a few things so the boards are a hair lighter and can now accept any kind of color work/ artwork options. They are also stronger than before. So in a nutshell: stronger, lighter, same springy flex….and can handle whatever graphics.

The only slight difference in feel in the new Proxies is that they have a bit more slingshotty of a feel

driving out of turns….a good thing.

Turnaround right now is 6-8 weeks.
Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. I know you would be stoked on a magic Proxy custom.
Looking forward to your reply,

Aloha,

Todd

Todd / Charissa,

Sorry it took so long for me to write but it was awhile before we received some good swell for me to give the board a going over and since then

I have been having the most fun in my life surfing with it.

But before I get to the board I wanted to thank you for the most impressive service I’ve seen in awhile. You both were easily accessible, I never had to wait long for any sort of response to
questions and I felt the service was done with a smile. From Todd calling me in Spain and taking his time to discuss the board with me to Charissa keeping me updated on its progress, the service was high class all the way.

Now about the board….

First off it looks totally sick.potsep1.jpg

The kevlar looks awesome as does the greyish color from the glassing. Combined with the digital camo that you put on the bottom of the board it looks totally insane. I received tons of looks and comments about how incredible it looks and needless to say I love it.

As for the performance,

I don’t know what you do Todd but you must

cast a spell or sprinkle magic dust over it or something because this

hands down performs better then any other board I have tried.

I thought after reading your testimonials that maybe it was just a lot of hype but no – the board actually contains the properties of magic.
It almost feels like it is spring loaded just waiting to be fired. The best part about it has to be the way it handles turns as this is when it really shows its quality. The speed you get when coming off of the top of the lip is incredible.

You can feel the board ’spring’ off of the top and it feels a little like a sling shot.

I can’t stress enough how much better this aspect of the board is compared to other boards I’ve ridden. I seriously feel like I’m “flying” coming off the lip and down the face.

Since I have had the board I feel like I have taken my

surfing to a new level and I’m having way more fun in the water.

I also feel like you listened during our consultation interview to what I needed. The board is a nice balance for taking my surfing a level up yet keeping in mind my level of experience and size.

You shaped it spot on.

Anyway I couldn’t have asked for anything more and you can count me as your customer for life. I’ve attached a photo of the underside of the board and will send some more when I can get some shots of it in the water. Keep up the great work and service. If you guys ever head to Spain or Portugal let me know and maybe we can meet up and ride a few.

Muchas gracias por todo. Mis mejores deseos.

Todd,
I picked up my new board from you a few weeks back. It’s a 6′2″ Proxy SR-71 with a two tone blue fade. I am always a skeptic when I try a new board out especially from a new shaper. When I got the board back to my house to check it out I found a curvier outline, more rocker, and less concave than my previous boards. I was thinking that it would be really manuverable but I was worried that it would be slow. Man was I wrong!

Once I started to figure the board out I was blown away by how sensetive it is rail to rail, and how I could use the extra manuverablity to generate even more speed.

My old boards have always been fast, But turning them at top speed was always the issue. They required full force which made the turn hard to control. This board however banks turns at full speed easily and the turns are positive. Plenty of projection. Not the type the tail starts to drift and with it goes all your speed for the next turn.

Also the board catches waves like a dream, I barely have to paddle.

With this being my first board from you I can only imagine what the next one will be like. For now I’m going to ride this one into the ground and try to find something about it that we can improve on for the next one. Thanks for giving me a board that is going to help me improve my surfing.

P.S. I bought some future compatable trulite fins from true ames. They work great on this board. Feels like glass ons.

Hey Todd and Charissa,

I got the board yesterday and was psyched to see the sickest looking board ever on my couch. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to use it until today and even though it missed the best part of this fun little jersey swell we had, I did get to ride it all morning on the tail end of the swell, in waist high and glassy surf. I was very happy to find that the board backed up it’s sick looks in the water.

After only my first ride I realized that your on to something special over there in Ventura.

Everything seems effortless and flowing on my new board, from the takeoff all the way to the kickout. It definitely helps me throughout every single one of my turns, I can kind of feel it finishing off my roundhouse for me, which is pretty sick seeing as I’ve been working on it for months on my old board and now I can finally get it all the way around in one smooth motion.

On some of the bigger sets, I could actually feel this flex thing you were talking about, almost as if the board was slinging me through the turns,

especially when I really put some power into it (powerful for the 125 pound ME that is). It’s fast but not too fast where I’m out in the flats, and it paddles and rides like a dream. Plus its really light, which is awesome because I’m too light to be handling a PU the way I can handle this one. I couldn’t have asked for more.
This was my first experience ordering a custom board, and I was very very surprised. I went in expecting to ask for a board model and dimensions and any other specifications and that’s it. As evidenced by over 20 emails between myself and you, this was a very interpersonal project, with input and suggestions from both sides.

Honestly, this “talk to the shaper” thing is no baloney.

You said that I’d be stoked on a

……..magic Groveler IV.p……. well, Todd, I am.

Thanks so much for your time and effort,

Surfed the board at Beacon (13th Beach) ….went great!

raised a few eyebrows with the technology involved in the production of it.
Thanks again.

Hey Todd the greased pig I got – the titatanium series,
surfed it in solid six foot waves at 13th beach today.
seems the bigger the waves with more push the better it goes.
I’m stoked.

It has raised some eyebrows, surf has pumped for 6 weeks here.
